Last week, USAID hosted the first-ever orange flesh sweet potato festival in Gushegu, Northern Region, to celebrate the harvesting of more than 250 metric tons of the crop. The festival brought together farmers, community members, chiefs, and more, and had cooking and harvesting demonstrations, drumming, dancing, hip life performances, and more. USAID is collaborating with Government of Ghana, University of Development Studies and the Peace Corps to teach women in 17 districts in the Northern Region how to grow and prepare the vitamin-rich potato. The orange fleshed sweet potato is expected to improve the health of thousands of women and children in the Northern Region.
